5th/6th Grade Day 1

**NEW** Students ? please join me in a warm welcome to our new secretary, Ms. Denice. Miss Gabby is no longer with us. Denice has worked in the school district before and knows many of your families :-) Make sure to introduce yourself when you come to the office so she can learn your names. Ms. Wendy Stangland from the district office will be in our middle school office each morning at 7:45 to help with calls that need to be translated. She will also be able to translate for your parents if they come into the building.

**NEW** The after school program with transportation starts tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 4th

**NEW** Students and Parents ? make sure that you do not use the parking lot to get dropped off in the morning or picked up in the afternoon. We need to keep the parking lot clear for the staff that need to park their vehicles. You may use the 8th grade south door so you don?t have walk so far to get to WARMTH!

**NEW** Don?t forget?. NO SHORTS RULE starts today. You may wear shorts under your sweatpants but you MUST have pants on throughout the day at school until March 1st.

**NEW** We have some new faces in our building for the next number of weeks:
Mrs. Harskamp has a student teacher ? Mr. Victor Mena
Mrs. VanderWaal has a student teacher ? Ms. Laura Korver
Mrs. Walhof ? has had a student intern, Miss Zonnefeld, but she will now be here full days instead of half days!
Mr. DeSmit ? has had a student intern, Miss VanWeelden, but she will now be here full days instead of half days as well
Mrs. Kuipers ? she is on maternity leave until mid-February. Her sub this week is Miss Cunard and then will be Mr. Heard (he is on his honeymoon this week)

**NEW** THE END OF OUR 2ND QUARTER AND OUR SEMESTER IS NEXT Friday, JANUARY 12TH. The new exploratories for 7th and 8th grade will start on Monday, Jan. 15th.

**NEW** Girls? basketball practice will begin on Thursday, January 4. 7th Grade will be busses to Kinsey after school for practice. 8th Grade will have practice in the MS Gym.

Students assigned to the after school program (for late work) - you will no longer be able to use your phone or listen to music during that time. You?ll be asked to put your phone in a location near the supervisor. You are in that room because of unfinished work. You don?t need any other distractions. Power Hour does not follow these same guidelines, however, your supervisor during that time has the discretion of asking you for your earbuds or phones if the distraction is too much for you to handle.

Geography Bee signup sheet is in the Middle School office. The bee will be held on Wednesday, January 10 during Power Hour.
